Arthur is a man who when so many people give up and wind down their lives, seized an opportunity and took the chance of a lifetime. Living within the moment brought happiness, a beautiful family, a new career and an amazing future.

Arthur James Binks was born in 1938 the eldest of four sons of a West Yorkshire farming family. After leaving school at the age of fifteen he trained as a motor mechanic, followed by two years National Service (deferred until he was twenty one) and worked for a year running a public works transport section before eventually becoming a commercial repairs garage owner. He married his sweetheart, Iris, and enjoyed a happy marriage lasting forty one years until her death in 2000. Later in 2000, now living alone, Arthur, whose hobby was sailing his yacht 'Jessica', heard about an expedition to sail the Pacific and applied to join the crew. At the age of sixty three, he embarked on a voyage of discovery and the adventure of a lifetime. In 'Wine, Women and Sailing' he tells the story of how he returned from his adventure, having discovered more than he had bargained for.
